with farther reference to your letter of the 7th. inst.,

regarding Trade Marks registered in Hongkong in the joint names

of ourselves and a German firm, we cannot quite understand that

is meant by your statement that although it might be possible for

us to acquire the right to use the Trade Marks in Hongkong, yet

nomaction taken in the Colony would satisfactorily cover neigh-

bouring territories.

It is on shipments direct to Hongkong that we desire

especially to be able to use the Marks in question, and it is only

in Hongkong that there is any Joint German interest in the same,

for the rest of the marketa which we are interested in we havė

the sole right to um the marks on goods sent from here.

If we

acquired that right as regarde Hongkong, then even if the goods

eventually found their way into the mainland we cannot see that

the German firm could have any right of action against us,

especially as there is no Trade Mark Law in vogue in China.

We muat apologise for troubling you again, but we feel

very strongly about the matter, and we trust that in the

interests of British Trade you will yet see your way to assist us

in securing the right we ask for.

As we stated in our letter of the 21st. Novembar, 1918,

the Trade Marks in question have been our own registered

property in England since about the year 1870. Therefore they"

are very old and valuable marks, particularly in the Hongkong

market, and we are now continually having to miss opportunities of using them there, thus their value and reputation is vanishing

a fact which will undoubtedly injure British Trade.

The Under Secretary of State,

E.N.

Colonial Office,

LONDON, S.T.1.

We are, Sir,

Your obedient servants,

W. Chunlike
